These presets are meant to be applied to technically "correct" images. By that, I mean that any exposure or white balance issues must be taken care of before applying any preset. It’s best to start with a clean image with proper white balance and exposure. Additional basic tweaks (exposure, white balance, contrast, saturation, etc.) may be necessary/desired after applying the preset depending on your own taste.
